The challenge: knowing where to look
A university website organises information into services and departments. A student often starts with a question instead: where to find guidance, which support service to contact, or how to discover an opportunity.
The Student Hub’s academic resources section brings together learning and study support, exams and assessments, libraries and teaching timetables. It also explains that some information differs between the university’s campuses. This gives students a substantial body of information to navigate.
A smart AI assistant for student information
City St George’s uses Knowbot to help students find answers, locate guidance and discover services and opportunities. The assistant interprets questions written in everyday language and responds using published Student Hub pages.
The difference from a scripted chatbot is the ability to work with a student’s own wording and relevant website material. Instead of depending on a fixed menu of questions, Knowbot provides a conversational route to information and links students to source pages for further detail.
Available within the Student Hub
The Knowbot launcher is embedded on the Student Hub, including its Academic Resources page. Students can use it while browsing the university’s information. The university explains that the launcher is shown when the required statistics-cookie consent is enabled.
Knowbot helps students understand published guidance and find the relevant service. For personal timetables, student records or library account services, students follow the relevant links to the university’s own systems.
Learning from student feedback
The university invites people to try the assistant and report what works well, which information is difficult to find and how responses could improve. It describes this feedback as part of deciding how the service should develop.
For university website and student-services teams, this illustrates how an AI assistant can make published student information easier to navigate, retain links to the underlying guidance and use feedback to improve the experience. The university also reminds users to check important information against the original sources.
